Spring time is the season of growing and awakening. Nature is becoming green and starts to bloom again and with this we can feel our energy (Qi) rising, too.
In TCM we call spring the "liver season". There is no better time than spring to prevent illness and diseases with nature's helping hand. It is also important to maintain one’s health by nourishing liver Qi and blood during spring time.
As spring is represented by the wood element and includes the liver and it's complementary organ, the gallbladder, these two organs are usually the primary targets for springtime cleansing and health regimens.

The 5 elements refer to wood, fire, earth, metal, and water in TCM. Spring is related to the following:

- Element: Wood
- Color: Green
- Nature: Yang
- Organs: Liver, Gallbladder
- Emotion: Anger
- Taste: Sour
- Time of Day: Morning
- Tissues: Tendons

Now it's time to change our food menu from winter to spring. Start eating more green produce, meaning young plants - fresh, leafy greens, sprouts and salads. They can improve the liver’s overall functions and support the movement of Qi. Regarding the taste “sour” just ad a squeeze of lemon or lime to your water or drink. Prepare your salad dressing with vinegar and oil etc.
Do more outdoor activities. Now is the best time to start moving again. Fresh air helps the liver Qi flow.
Get Acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture can help improve the overall health of your liver as well as it can treat stress, anger and frustration. These symptoms are often associated with disharmony of the liver.

As spring is the season of outburst of emotions, it’s worth trying to control the emotions to prevent disharmony in your body.
